Michael Phelps, The Man, Mr. Swimming himself, has signed a seven-figure endorsement deal to pitch Head & Shoulders drandruff shampoo.
What does this mean? Is all that chlorine making his scalp dry and flakey? I don't know. I don't even know if the product is made for people without dandruff, but the deal must have been right for Phelps and his reps at Octagon to sign-on.
The most decorated Olympian of all-time is repped by Peter Carlisle, the head of Octagon's Olympic and Action Sports divsion.
Peter's been there with Michael from the beginning, when he first turned pro, slowly building the Phelps brand. According to Peter, they like to work with companies and represent products they believe in. Moreover, they also take into account how much visibility the partnership will create and where. Subway, for example, was very attractive because Michael likes the product and the company was expanding throughout Europe, an important strategic location considering the Games will be in London next year.
Peter, above all else, is a good guy. He's well respected and liked in the Olympic industry. TO GAIN SOME INSIGHT INTO THE OLYMPIC BIZ, LISTEN TO PETER CARLISLE IN THIS GOLD MEDAL MINUTE INTERVIEW:
Congrats to Michael for his continued success.

Dang Michael sure has some good karma.
