www.telegraph.co.uk: Darren Steel, Tweed Heads police inspector, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) that the man's boat was hit by a large wave, knocking into the water. The boat kept going without him, so he was forced to make the 4.7-mile swim to shore. without a lifejacket and through strong currents... Other fishermen working in the same waters had spotted sharks in the area in recent days, according to local media reports.

That was brave of him to have survived the situation. Very lucky of him that he was not attack by sharks.
